Primary Purpose:

Assist journeyman in planning, lay-out, installation, testing and performing all process requirements for installation of instrumentation in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Use appropriate hand (i.e. wrench, screwdriver) & power tools (i.e. power drill, pipe cutters, threaders, tubing benders & welding instruments) to properly measure, cut, assemble & install instrumentation, air distribution systems, process tubing & support systems & install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans & specifications. Test all installed work & make necessary repairs or adjustments as necessary; install & connect power supply for instrumentation; test all installed work & make necessary repairs, if any. Help perform hydrostatic & pneumatic testing of pipe systems. Perform tube identification & testing (continuity). Install multi-tubing, junction boxes, & hand valves . Layout, fabricate & install instrumentation system, hard drawn copper tubing, fittings & steam tracing. Perform layout & mounting of panel instruments & devices. Perform pipe assembly for socket weld pipe tubing fittings & for butt-weld pipe & fittings. Use & care of hand & power tools. Participate in all safety related processes & programs as requested. Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries. Understand that no job is so important that your safety & that of your crew will be compromised. Watch for hazards & report any concerns to your supervisor or safety. If needed, use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved. Report all accidents & near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed. Participate in all pre-job work planning & safety discussions; Identify safety hazards employees may be subject to & take all corrective action to eliminate &/or mitigate hazards. Understand& respond appropriately to all safety hazards & warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens). Understand, support, & follow lockout/tag out procedures. Attend site specific training & assure you follow all procedures as out lined in training. Follow safety rules & regulations & maintain a safe & clean work environment. Use effective verbal & written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers & fractions rapidly & accurately. Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, & recommendations giving full attention to what they are saying & take the time to understand the points being made, asking questions & providing feedback when appropriate. Coordinate work with other crafts & co-workers on the job. Actively participate in on-the-job training & mentoring opportunities with co-workers in your craft when provided. Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications & industry standards. Learn to read & understand plans & specifications, including P&ID, orthographic, & isometric drawings. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions. With regard to that portion of the work assigned, assist in planning, installing &/or repair systems in accordance with those plans & specifications. Assist journeymen in laying out work & learn to perform layout independently. Learn to observe function of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards & need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Notify supervision of any hazards observed & utilize safety stop work authority as needed. Examine/inspect field conditions & identify problems, inaccuracies, & cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision. If certified to operate equipment ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, & Daily Equipment Inspections are completed for equipment being utilized. Comply with Company Code of Conduct & jobsite policies. Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties & accountabilities. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training & skills as requested by project supervision. Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 1 year of Experience working as an instrument fitter or similar craft as a helper or a combination of work experience and training, and a working knowledge of the Instrument Fitter craft. Developing knowledge of fabrication and installation of primary piping and tubing for instrument power supply; use of testing and measuring instruments; working with low and high pressure tubing/piping systems; and welding for fabrication of supports and brackets. Ability to understand and follow directions. In addition, must have all necessary tools (see Instrument Fitter Helper Tool List). Must be at least 18 years of age.
